Call for nominations to the AUUG Board
25 April 2008 Jon Wright
Friends, Unix-geeks and Linux-lovers,
It is that time of year again when we call for nominations for the AUUG Board. Although the current board's tenure does not expire until 30 June, the board is looking to co-opt nominees onto the current board ASAP, unless an election is required.
As you are aware, a ballot of members was conducted during February and March of 2008, to vote on a motion to dissolve AUUG. The motion was defeated (12 votes to 8).
This is now your chance to say what happens next. As Frank Crawford said in a recent post to the AUUG Discussion List, "unless sufficient people pull together to make it work we will fold anyway, and in a much less controlled fashion".
The current board has met and discussed a number of possible changes including:
- fee reduction (in line with expenses)
- complete restructure of the board (reduce to four members)
- re-emphasis of the role of associates (many on the talk list are effectively associates)
If you want to have some say in the discussion, volunteer now! It might be your last chance!
To be elected you need to be a current financial member. You also need two members to nominate you but the current board is happy to help with this.
Deadline for nominations is 15th of May, 2008 (three weeks from today).
